Snell & Snell Powerlink 525 X-Ring Chain & Sprocket Set

Description

The chain & sprocket set where you can choose the size of the sprockets!

With the help of our guide, you can easily see which standard sprocket and chain length are original on your motorcycle. If you want original gear you choose the corresponding sprocket and chain in the list below.

The sprockets:
All Snell sprockets are laser cut, unlike some other drives made by punching. In manufacturing, advanced technology is used to cut out the sprockets and to get a perfect cut that will increase the durability. If you have good maintenance on the chain, you can expect a lifetime of +30 000 kilometres, depending on the road surface. All Snell sprockets have a black anodised "Electroplated" surface which gives a fine finish and also increases the drive durability.

The chain:
Snell Powerlink is a brand new X-ring chain tested and developed with elite riders. Powerlink has low rolling resistance and minimal post-stretching, the Quadra X-rings. The chain has up to three times the service life of a standard MC chain.

The Powerlink chain uses Quadra X-rings, which gives 50% less friction than an O-ring chain. The lower friction means that you get a lower rolling resistance and thus a higher power to the rear wheel, so you get a longer service life and at the same time the right conditions for faster lap times.

The chain is made up of links made of hardened quality steel, held together by "Hard Chromium Nickel Molybdenum" rivets. A softer core and extremely hard surface gives you solid rivets that neither bend nor go off. The rivets in combination with the hardened links give you an extremely durable chain.

All chains are both pre-tensioned and pre-stretched, which combined with the best material choices gives you a chain with minimal stretching. Includes rivet lock.

- Gold/metal, 118 links, 890LBS, 2,7 kg per 118 links

This is how you choose the right sprocket and chain if you want to replace your old one:

Changing the size of the front sprocket or the rear sprocket is a very simple and popular way to change a design detail of your motorcycle.

1: To get better acceleration: change to a smaller front sprocket, and/or a larger rear sprocket.

2: To increase top speed: change to a larger front sprocket, and/or a smaller rear sprocket.

You will notice the same difference if you replace one tooth in the front as by replacing three teeth in the rear. On most motorcycles, you notice a big difference in changing one tooth in the front. Therefore it is recommended to make small changes. To maintain the correct angle of the chain, you should distribute the changes between the front sprocket and the rear sprocket. Rather, replace one front tooth + three rear teeth instead of six rear teeth.

When changing the size of the sprocket, you may also need to change the length of the chain. On almost all motorcycles, you can increase/decrease one tooth in the front or rear sprocket, while still maintaining the original length of the chain.

In case of a change greater than one tooth, you often need to change the length of the chain, then the following is a good basic rule to use:
if you switch to a sprocket with two more teeth, then you need a one link longer chain.

However, all chains are sold in steps of two links, so you may need to cut the chain. There is also a chance that you may not have to cut, by adjusting the axle block chain adjuster at the wheel axle.

A link on the chain corresponds to an adjustment of 8-10 mm at the shaft block. If you need one link longer chain and have the option to adjust 8-10 mm at the shoulder block, then you can buy a chain that is 2 links longer without having to cut the chain.
